How do I change an active lease?
Use Amend to propose rent or deposit changes, an extension of the existing term, tenant addition or release, a sublease, pets, utilities, smoking, maintenance, parking or storage wording, a custom clause, or a negotiated ending. A successor renewal and a statutory, notice or court-authorized ending have separate review processes. Custom and parking/storage wording do not automatically change billing or access.
The form loads the current lease terms. Enter the proposed dates and specific terms, complete the requirements for this change, and choose any required supporting PDFs. Preview proposed change shows the server's current terms, proposed terms, one-time fee and expected effects. Confirm that exact review before Save unsigned draft. Editing terms requires another preview. Saving does not execute the agreement or change the live lease.
Open Review request or edit draft to complete an unsigned draft or tenant request. Recording review alone does not activate an amendment, add a participant, change rent or terminate a lease. Review its PDF and attachments, then send the packet for its required parties to choose delivery and give their own assent. Each countersign keeps the recorded terms. For an ordinary pending or declined proposal, choose Review changed amendment revision, open its retained source documents, explain the change and confirm fresh assent. Preview and save the new linked draft; this retires the old outstanding invitations and keeps earlier signed evidence readable. Send the new packet for every required party. An already executed change uses the correcting-agreement process.
Review the resulting responsibility schedule when legal tenants or individual allocations change. Fee shares identify the specific responsible parties separately from the rent payer or household contact. Deposit treatment does not itself transfer held funds. Legal effect, possession, access and final billing dates are separate. Change application status shows scheduled work, completed steps and failures. A retry resumes incomplete work; a conflict needing specific review cannot be cleared by a generic retry.
For a sublease, identify the subtenant and the master tenant granting it, then explicitly choose who collects its rent. The recorded collection choice is read-only at countersign; older records without a saved choice show the existing default separately. A subtenant's billing share or account access follows the completed agreement and its dates. An internal approval, payer setting or request does not create legal tenancy, release another person or transfer auto-pay consent.
